App-y Driving

It seems there’s an app for everything! You can manage a detailed schedule for your family, monitor your diet and exercise, and maintain an elaborate filing system of articles you found online. Yes, those handy-dandy little tools that fill your mobile device can do just about everything except walk the dog and fold the laundry. We’ve discovered a few apps that can make your driving experience easier, safer and a bit more enjoyable.

Between work, family, and other responsibilities, who has time to keep track of oil
changes or to make sure you’re getting the best gas mileage possible? Several
apps are available to log service, monitor fuel economy and even set reminders
to make service appointments. Among the highly rated are Car Minder Plus and Gas Cubby for iPhone and Car Maintenance Reminder Pro for Android.

On the road? GasBuddy helps you find the cheapest gas prices in your area. Who doesn’t need that?

AAA members can access many of their services through their app, including
roadside assistance. It also provides information of their discount providers
and stores your AAA card. The AAA app is available for iPhone/iPad or Android.

Tired of the interstate? Discover the most entertaining roads as rated by other
users. BMW Ultimate Drive promises a fun, map-based app for Android and
iPad/iPhone.

Turn up the music from over 50,000 radio stations from all over the world with
TuneIn Radio! When you upgrade to the pro version you can rewind and pause
music as well.

We’ve discussed the dangers of texting while driving and we strongly advise
against it. Drivesafe.ly keeps your attention where it belongs by reading your text messages aloud and sending a response. You never have to touch the screen.

We’d love to hear your input. Share your favorite apps on our Facebook
page…especially if you find one that does the laundry.
